As the tallest building in Crescent City, the 7-story Surf Hotel ,previously known as the Lauff, towers prominantly on the corner of Front and H Streets across from Beachfront Park. Currently the Surf serves as a private senior apartment facility. Although the art-deco entrance foyer suffered extensive damage from the tsunami of 1964, the Surf was one of the few buildings in the downtown area of Crescent City to structurally survive. The film star Lloyd Bridges provided the Hotel’s main claim to fame, co-owning it with his father.
