The mission of the Mountain Play Association is to produce an annual, spectacular, outdoor theatrical experience that nurtures an appreciation of Mt. Tamalpais, involves and strengthens the community, and builds on decades of tradition.
Thousands of patrons come from all over the greater Bay Area and beyond. The performances are held near the top of Mount Tamalpais in the Cushing Memorial Amphitheatre, fondly referred to as “the mountain theater.”
An early arrival maximizes your options for choice seats and allows for plenty of recreation time before the show begins. Gates open at 8am.
The Mountain Theater (a.k.a. The Cushing Memorial Theater) was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The natural-stone amphitheater seats 3,750 people and features the Mountain Play each spring, produced every year since 1913.
